Team building on a Komodo boat: a day or a weekend, planned like an event

Updated 28 October 2026

A team-building day for 28 takes Zada Ulla for one day at IDR 80,000,000 · about USD 4,908, IDR 2,860,000 · about USD 175 each. A smaller team of 12 takes Zada Zen for IDR 55,000,000 · about USD 3,374. The activities are the route's own: walks, snorkelling, paddle board and kayak on Ulla and Nara, and karaoke.

A team-building day built from the stops and the kit

Team building on a boat starts from what the boat and the route offer. The inventory is short.

  • Kelor. A short, steep hill walk to a viewpoint over the bay, with a swim afterwards.
  • Rinca. A walk with a park ranger; the ranger, not the organiser, sets the groups.
  • Menjerite. A snorkel stop, with mask and snorkel on board for every guest, and a life jacket for each guest.
  • Paddle board and kayak. Listed on Zada Ulla and Zada Nara.
  • Karaoke. Listed on Zada Ulla, Zada Nara and Zada Mega.

Nothing else comes with the fare. Kit and a facilitator are arranged on request and quoted separately. The games are the organiser's. A photo challenge at each stop, buddy pairs for the snorkel and a karaoke round after lunch cost nothing and need nothing from us.

One day for twenty-eight: the 1D plan and its price

The one-day route is a sample. It uses Kelor and Menjerite as sample stops, set by the captain on the day, with lunch on board and a return before sunset. For 28 people the whole of Zada Ulla is IDR 80,000,000 · about USD 4,908, which is IDR 2,860,000 · about USD 175 per person.

2026 rates, IDR, per boat, guide and documentation extra. The park entry fee is IDR 250,000 for foreign visitors, IDR 50,000 for Indonesians on a weekday and IDR 75,000 at a weekend; the ranger fee is paid separately. The captain sets the order of stops, the anchorage and the timing on the day, by weather and park rules; times on this page are a sample.

Splitting a team into groups: by cabin, by boat, by walking pace

A group of 28 does not walk as one. There are three useful ways to divide it, and they can run together.

By walking pace. On the walks the rangers set the groups on the day, so a team that is split by pace loses nothing. Name a fast and a slow group before boarding, agree one meeting point, and let nobody feel left behind by calling the slower walk the viewpoint group.

By buddy. Snorkelling is optional, and pairs make it safer. Pair a confident swimmer with an anxious one, and let the PIC hold the list. Everyone has a life jacket on board.

By cabin. On an overnight trip, the cabin pair is the natural unit: two guests share a cabin, and the bed set-up for each pair is confirmed with the rooming list. Cabin pairs make a ready-made buddy list.

By boat. A team above 28 splits across two boats, as separate charters booked together. Mixed teams on each boat usually work better than whole departments on one, and the multi-boat page sets out the combinations.

The Friday-to-Saturday variant with one night at anchor

A weekend variant adds one night. A 2D1N charter on Zada Ulla for 28 people is IDR 140,000,000 · about USD 8,589, or IDR 5,000,000 · about USD 307 per person, and the second day brings Padar, Komodo Island, Pink Beach and Manta Point. Where the boat anchors for the night is decided by the captain and the weather; the group sleeps aboard.

The arrival logic matters more than the route. The team should be in Labuan Bajo the day before sailing, because flights are cancelled and delayed often enough that arriving on the morning of the trip risks the whole day. A team that lands on Thursday night can board on Friday and be back on Saturday.

The park fee is the one calendar-driven price. Indonesian visitors pay IDR 50,000 on a weekday and IDR 75,000 at a weekend, so check which side of that line each park day falls. We publish one 2026 price list for each boat; weekday and weekend rates are confirmed per date on request.

Weekdays are easier to block than weekends. A team that can choose Tuesday to Wednesday over Friday to Saturday has more boats to choose from.

Non-swimmers, heat and life jackets

Life jackets are on board for every guest. Snorkelling is optional, and a guest who prefers not to swim stays on the boat or on the beach, which is a perfectly good way to spend a stop. Walks on Kelor, Rinca and Padar are on paths, with a ranger on the park walks. Shade is thin on the trails and on the sandbar, so hats, reef-safe sunscreen and water matter more than fitness.

We make no medical claims. Guests tell us about injuries, health conditions and diets on the dietary and medical line of the producer's checklist, and we confirm in writing what the boat and the route can accommodate. Seasickness is the same: the sea is calmer in some months than in others, and a guest prone to it should ask a doctor.

Producer's checklist for a team-building day. The head count, the colour teams, a PIC, the dietary and medical list, and the flight times of anyone arriving that morning.

FAQ

What team-building activities work on a boat?

Those built on the stops and kit of the route: the Kelor hill walk, a ranger walk on Rinca, a snorkel at Menjerite, paddle boards and kayaks on Zada Ulla and Zada Nara, and the karaoke sound system. Games and props are the organiser's; a facilitator is quoted separately.

Is snorkeling mandatory for all staff?

No. Snorkelling is optional, with mask, snorkel and a life jacket on board for every guest. A guest who prefers to stay dry remains on the boat or the beach, and the day still works. Pairing buddies on the list makes the swim safer.

Can non-swimmers join?

Yes. Life jackets are on board for every guest, snorkelling is optional and the walks follow paths with rangers. We make no medical claims; guests tell us about any condition on the dietary and medical line, and we confirm in writing what is possible.

How do we split 28 people into teams on a boat?

By walking pace on the walks, by buddy pair for the snorkel and by cabin pair overnight. Rangers set their own groups on the day. Name the teams and a PIC before boarding, so the captain and the rangers deal with one person.

What is the safety briefing?

The captain gives it on the day, and your PIC should ask for it at boarding. In advance we can tell you the kit: a life jacket for every guest, plus the safety equipment listed on each boat's page.

How long is the boat ride from Labuan Bajo to Komodo Island?

On the sample day charter the first stop, Kelor, is roughly an hour from the harbour, and the day's stops are confirmed in writing with the quote. Komodo Island is a fixed stop of the 2D1N route, where the captain sets the order and the sailing times on the day.
