Komodo Island for a group: the walk, the rangers and the fee list

Updated 28 October 2026

Komodo Island is walked with park rangers, who choose the trail and split larger groups on the day. Entry is IDR 250,000 for foreign visitors and IDR 50,000 or IDR 75,000 for Indonesians, per person and paid separately. The dragons are wild, and the park cannot guarantee a sighting.

Rangers, rules and the group size they allow

No one walks Komodo Island without a ranger. The treks start at the Loh Liang station, and the rangers decide the trail, the pace and how a large group is divided. With a party of 28, expect to be split into smaller groups, each with its own ranger.

The dragons are wild, not exhibits. The park cannot guarantee a sighting, and a ranger will stop the group at a safe distance. Listen to the briefing at the station; it is part of the stop, and it is the ranger's rules that apply, not ours. A briefing for a large group takes longer than for a pair, and the first minutes at the station are the right time to settle questions about distance, noise and photographs.

Tell the team two things before they arrive: closed shoes and a long sleeve or sunscreen, because the trails have little shade, and that a guest who does not want to walk can stay at the station or aboard.

Choosing the short, medium or long trail

Short, medium and long trails exist, and most itineraries take the shorter ones. A walk lasts from about 45 to 120 minutes depending on the trail the rangers choose and on the pace of the slowest guest. The difficulty is rated easy, which is why this stop works for a mixed-age team that finds Padar too steep.

We do not pick the trail for you, and the captain does not either. What the group can do is tell the ranger at the start how much time it has and how it feels about heat, and let the ranger choose. Heat is the real limit: the walk is on the dry side of the day, and a group that arrives at midday has less shade than one that arrives early.

Fees and the tickets list

Park tickets and ranger fees are never in a Zada fare. The entry fee is per person under PP 36/2024: IDR 250,000 for foreign visitors, IDR 50,000 for Indonesians on a weekday and IDR 75,000 at a weekend. Ranger and other levies are paid separately and can change.

The group buys on one list of names, written as on the passport or the national ID. Send the list by the cut-off in your written quote, and bring cash for the ranger fee on the day.

The park fees page has a calculator for ten, fourteen and twenty-eight guests, in foreign and Indonesian columns, so the finance person can fill the budget line without typing a sum. Whatever the table shows, check the ticket count against the manifest on the morning of the walk; a missing name at the ticket office is a delay for the whole group.

Komodo National Park fees (paid separately)
International visitorsIDR 250,000 per person per day
Indonesian visitorsIDR 50,000 per person per day · IDR 75,000 weekends & holidays

Paid separately in cash or e-ticket; ranger and pier levies are extra and can change. Regulation: PP 36/2024 · Verified 10 October 2026.

Where the stop sits in a 3-day run

Komodo Island is on day two of the 3D2N: after Padar and Pink Beach, before Taka Makassar and Manta Point. On the 2D1N it follows Padar and comes before Pink Beach. The order is a sample and the captain moves it with tide, weather and ranger availability.

It is not on the sample 1D day, which stays on the near side of the park. Put the ranger fee in the budget line for the day, so that the PIC is not looking for change at the station. If the group includes Indonesian and foreign colleagues, split the ticket list in two before the cut-off, because the fees differ and the ticket office works from names.

FAQ

Is it safe to walk with Komodo dragons?

The walk is ranger-led, the rangers set the distance and the trail, and the dragons are wild. Follow the rangers' instructions, wear closed shoes and keep the group together. We give no medical advice; travel insurance is recommended.

How many people walk with one ranger?

The rangers split larger groups on the day and set the pace. Expect smaller groups, each with a ranger, and allow the time that takes.

What is the entry fee for Komodo Island?

IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor, IDR 50,000 per Indonesian on a weekday and IDR 75,000 at a weekend, under PP 36/2024. Ranger fees are extra and paid on the day; neither is in the fare.
