Padar for a group: the climb, the light and the hand-off
Updated 28 October 2026
Padar is a steep walk up to a viewpoint over three bays, and a group does best to go in two waves. The climb takes 25 to 45 minutes. Aim for sunrise, which falls at 06:18 in July and 05:31 in November. There are no dragons on Padar.
The climb in numbers for a mixed team
Padar is a ridge walk, not a beach. From the main viewpoint the island opens over three bays with differently coloured sand. The climb to that viewpoint takes about 25 to 45 minutes, and the upper ridge takes longer. The path is loose and steep in places, so the stop is rated moderate: fine for anyone steady on rough ground, hard for a guest in smooth-soled shoes.
In a mixed team the spread is wide. The fastest walker reaches the top in the first half of that range and the slowest in the second, so build the wait into the plan. Agree the meeting point before the first step, send the strongest walkers up first, and let anyone who prefers to stay aboard do so. The climb is optional, and a guest who skips it has not missed a paid item.
Shoes with grip matter more than any other item in the bag. Water goes in every hand.
Do not sell Padar to the team as a dragon stop. There are no dragons on Padar, and it is not a beach stop either; the point is the ridge viewpoint. Guests who expect either will be disappointed, and the briefing should say so in one sentence.

Sunrise timing in the month you book
Guests usually leave the boat about 65 minutes before sunrise, and a headtorch helps. The table gives sunrise at Padar for each month, so the wake-up call is a matter of subtraction. In July the sun is up at 06:18; in November at 05:31. Across the year it runs from 05:31 to 06:18.
The captain sets the departure from the boat, because where the boat lies depends on the weather and on the captain's decision that day; the PIC passes the time to the group at dinner. Tell the team at dinner, not at breakfast, so that those who want the sunrise can sleep early and the others can wake at a normal hour.

Moving a full boat along one ridge path
A ridge path is narrow, and 28 guests on Zada Ulla do not walk it as one block. Split the group into two waves by walking pace, not by department, and give each wave a named PIC with the head count on a list. The rangers' rules and any queue at the start of the path can change the order, and the weather can change it again.
Photographs are the usual cause of delay. Decide the team photo before the climb: where, who holds the phone, and how long. A group that has agreed this takes five minutes at the top; one that has not takes twenty.
Smaller boats follow the same logic with a single wave. Zada Zen takes 12 and Zada Mega 10, which one PIC can count by eye. The slowest guest sets the time for the whole wave, so give that guest a place at the front of the second wave and not the back, where a waiting group tends to grow restless.

Padar is part of day two on the 2D1N, 3D2N, 4D3N and 5D4N routes. It is not on the 1D day route. Ask for the Padar morning to be written into your rooming list handout, so each guest knows at dinner when the alarm is.
FAQ
How long is the Padar climb?
About 25 to 45 minutes to the main viewpoint, depending on fitness and heat; the upper ridge takes longer. In a group the walkers spread out, so plan a wait at the top and agree a meeting point first.
Can older guests do Padar?
If they are steady on a steep, loose path, yes, and the climb is optional. Older guests can walk part of the way or stay aboard. Give us the age range in the brief and we plan the morning around it.
What time is sunrise at Padar?
Between 05:31 and 06:18 through the year: 06:18 in July and 05:31 in November. Guests leave the boat about 65 minutes before sunrise, and the captain sets the time on the day.
